Pumped Up Seeds

26 Oct

Too Crispy

I am blogging about pumpkin seeds. Can you tell I haven’t left the house today?

When I made my Chelsea’d Pumpkin a while back I saved the seeds for roasting. Golly, I love roasted pumpkin seeds! One of my super sexy web admin boys, Patrick, and I are borderline obsessed with Hallowe’en. Back in the day we would carve pumpkins together and would always do a minimum of three. Each. That made for a lot of seeds to snack on! (more…)

A (Vegan) Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

9 Oct

T.Giving Din

This weekend Canadians from coast to coast to coast are celebrating Thanksgiving. Here’s a little excerpt from our friends at Wikipedia regarding the Canadian roots of Thanksgiving:

“The origins of the first Thanksgiving in Canada goes back to an explorer, Martin Frobisher, who had been trying to find a northern passage to the Pacific Ocean. Frobisher’s Thanksgiving celebration was not for harvest, but for homecoming. He had safely returned from an unsuccessful search for the Northwest Passage, avoiding the later fate of Henry Hudson and Sir John Franklin. In the year 1578, Frobisher held a formal ceremony in Newfoundland to give thanks for surviving the long journey. Years later, the tradition of a feast would continue as more settlers began to arrive to the Canadian colonies.”

Well, I’m a Londoner now, so technically this week is a homecoming for me, right? Time for a feast?! (more…)

Lackadaisical Long Weekend Pizza

Ooey Gooey

Ever have one of those days when you don’t want to put any effort into your meal because, a) It’s the May long weekend and you’ve just worked the whole thing, and b) You’re drunk? Yeah, me too. This May 2-4 weekend I was hammered and wanted pizza.

Disclaimer: This post contains the least amount of effort of any I’ve posted thus far. (more…)

Beware the Ides of March!

16 Mar

Home Slice

March 15: The Ides of March, or THE BEST DAY OF THE YEAR! Why? Because it’s my birthday! (And since I’m the birthday girl, I’m going to make you listen to my favourite song of all time.) Time to get our cake on.

Strawberries were always my favourite when I was growing up because my red hair was described to me by my Mama as “strawberry blonde”. I figured if it was good enough for my hair, it was good enough for me. (What? Just roll with it.) Strawberries were my thang. This year for my b’day I made strawberry chocolate cake. (more…)

Christmas in February

Lattice Work

A couple of days before Christmas I baked vegan mince pies and then got too busy to blog about it. I just found this draft that was started on 23 DEC and figured I’d finish it now. Merry Christmas!

I am British. Check my passport if you don’t believe me! My Papa was born in London and I have British citizenship by descent. I have dual citizenship: UK and Canada. Aaaaaaaaaaaanyway, I figured since I was all British and junk that I should start learning how to be so. Pip pip! (more…)

Childhood

WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!!! It’s Christmastime! This means two things: cookies and…..wait for it……do you know what I’m ’bout to say?…..Mariah Carey! Please get your festive pants on and dance around the kitchen with me to this EXTENDED VERSION of Mizz Diva’s holiday classic! You’d better believe that I am partaking in a bit of Mariah Carey-oke right now. I sincerely hope you are too.

Tonight is the night that I share with you a veganised version of my favourite, favourite, favourite Christmas cookies! You’re so excited, I can tell! This was my first time baking these since becoming vegan. They turned out quite well and were delicious, but not quite where I wanted the texture to be. I’ll tell you what: it’s Christmas and everyone needs to eat these cookies at Christmas. I’ll share the recipe now, spend the next year perfecting them so we achieve the correct amount of SNAP! and I’ll update you next year. Sound like a plan? Fantastic. Let’s roll. (more…)
