I Put A Spell On You

31 Oct

Good God, I Wanna Kiss Myself

It’s Hallowe’en, I have just carved my pumpkin, and my original, childhood VHS copy of “Hocus Pocus” is playing in the VCR. What could possibly make this day more wonderful? If you’re thinking “baking with squash from the fall harvest”, you and I would be on the same page. (more…)

Garnished to Shit

A few weeks ago I did a guest post on the food blog of a friend of my Winnipegger cousin. I am posting it on my site as well, because this has become my reference guide for my own recipes. If I don’t post it here I will undoubtedly lose track of it and then where will I be? Recipeless and sad. Are you ready? This is how I would have posted this post. Let’s get on it.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

My name is Tracy Butcher and I am vegan. On my website, my Twitter feed and my Facebook page I go by the moniker The Vegan Butcher, but you, my friends, can call me The Vegan. Welcome to my guest post on Mizz Laura’s Comfort Food blog! (more…)

I Miss Having a Kitchen

Love You Brunches

Since arriving in London I have had one of three things for breakfast everyday: 1) Cold granola with cold soy milk, 2) A cold Clif Bar, 3) Nothing. Our apartment hotel has a kitchenette but it’s tiny and I’m scared of the appliances*. When flipping through my archive of unblogged-about pictures, I came around to these pictures from the Friday morning before I left Canada and wanted to rewind to it SO BADLY. I miss hot breakfast and I want to eat this again. Now! This brunch was facking amazing.

Into the Woods: Milky White’s Strawberry Shake

It’s time once again to head out of the kitchen and into the woods! This is the fourth post in our series on “Into the Woods”, Stephen Sondheim’s wonderful Broadway musical. Are you confused? New to theveganbutcher.com? Behind on the times? Living under a rock? Fret not! You can catch up here, here, and here.

In “Into the Woods”, Jack (of the classic tale Jack and the Beanstalk) lives with his mother in a tumbledown home with no money and only an old cow to their name. Said cow, Milky White, is Jack’s only friend, but she must be sold to bring some much needed gold into the household. Milky White hadn’t given milk for a while before they decide to sell her, which sets up this recipe perfectly: (more…)

From the Booth: Box Oven Banana Bread

29 Aug

BOOM

I hope you’re ready for another massive dose of insanity, because it’s time for the next post in the “From the Booth” series! In this series, as previously shown, you and I will take advantage of the endless hours spent at my weekend/evening job in a parking lot attendant booth by cooking vegan food right here at the lot.

This week we delve into a world as of yet unexplored at the booth: Baking! Baking? BAKING?!?! In a parking lot?!? All right, everybody needs to calm down. Yes. We’re going to bake. Let’s make the impossible possible! Grab your mixing bowls! We’re making banana bread. (If you’re thinking, “This shit is bananas!”, you’re not wrong.) (more…)

Getting Drunk with the Swiss Family Robinson

18 Aug

Mmmmmmmmmm

Okay, I need you to use your imagination and work with me here. There are a lot of “ifs” required to make this post work. IF the Swiss Family Robinson had been shipwrecked on an old pirate island with an impressive stash of rum and IF they had had an endless supply of (frozen) bananas, coconuts and limes and IF they had had a cocktail blender with a power source, then after a long day of building shelters and fighting off anacondas they would have kicked back on the beach with a drink.
